Bruno Ferenac family winery is located in the most important wine-growing village on the western coast of Istria — Vižinada, specifically in the village of Filipi. The winemaking and viticulture tradition in this family dates back around a hundred years. In more recent history, it was grandfather Grgo who began the tradition by selling his wine in his own “Spacio”, a type of wine tavern that was popular at the time — considered a forerunner of today’s wine bars.
The family tradition was continued by Josip Ferenac, but a true leap forward happened at the beginning of this century when young Bruno took over the winery, laying the foundations for a modern winemaking operation. Today, he is gradually bringing his daughter Katja into the business.
Bruno Ferenac Wines currently cultivates five hectares of vineyards, all located in the surroundings of Vižinada. Their best vineyard site is the “Nad Mekiši” micro-location. The vineyards are on average about twenty years old, planted in areas dominated by red soil. The main grape variety is Istrian Malvasia, followed by Teran, Merlot, and Yellow Muscat. They are present on the market with six wine labels.
Not a year goes by without this boutique winery receiving a notable award at local wine competitions. In addition to vineyards, the family also cultivates one hectare of olive trees.
The small wine cellar is located next to the family home, accompanied by a beautiful tasting room that can host up to thirty guests. Most of the wines are sold directly at the estate, but can also be found in many restaurants across Istria.
