Vinistra opens the doors to the prestigious Decanter Winners Showcase: Everyone will have the chance to taste Croatia’s finest wines

Third edition of the Decanter Winners Showcase by Vinistra available to the general public for the first time. Tickets are now on sale, and more than 40 Croatian winemakers will present their wines on Savudrija beach on July 2.

After two consecutive years of gathering exclusively wine professionals, hospitality industry representatives, distributors, and media, the prestigious Decanter Winners Showcase by Vinistra is introducing its biggest change since launch – for the first time, the event is opening its doors to all wine enthusiasts.

Set on one of the Adriatic’s most beautiful beaches, with the sea and sunset as a backdrop, visitors will have the opportunity on July 2, starting at 7 p.m., to taste some of Croatia’s finest wines awarded at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. Tickets are already available online at a price of €40.

More than 40 winemakers from all Croatian wine regions will present their award-winning labels at a unique walk-around tasting event. A special highlight of the evening will be the symbolic medal ceremony for the winemakers, with awards presented by Beth Willard, Co-Chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards and one of the world’s most respected wine experts.

As many as 15 medals for Malvasia

With a total of 412 medals won this year, Croatia has once again confirmed its place among the world’s leading wine nations. This marks Croatia’s best result to date, and with nine top distinctions – two Platinum and seven Gold medals – Malvasia stood out in particular, reinforcing its status as Croatia’s most internationally recognized wine variety.

“When Croatia wins 412 medals among nearly 17,000 wines from around the world, we are no longer talking about coincidence, but about consistent quality. Croatian winemakers have invested years of knowledge, effort, and passion, and Decanter is where all of this is most clearly recognized. We are especially pleased that this year award-winning wines will not only be tasted by professionals, but also by all wine lovers who want to experience the very best that Croatian winemaking has to offer today. I believe Savudrija will once again become a place where we showcase the strength, diversity, and international relevance of Croatia’s wine scene,” said Luka Rossi, President of Vinistra.

Best in Show from Hvar arrives in Savudrija

Visitors in Savudrija will also have the opportunity to taste the wine that has generated the most attention in recent months – Hvar’s Marijan Plavac Plažua 2021, which won the prestigious Best in Show title, Decanter’s highest distinction awarded to only a small number of wines among thousands of entries from around the world.

Over the past three years, the Decanter Winners Showcase by Vinistra has grown into one of the most important wine events in Croatia and the region. This year’s international interest further confirms its significance, with guests arriving from Italy, Slovenia, and Serbia, as well as Decanter journalists participating in a special study tour of Istria organized by Vinistra.

During several days in Istria, they will visit wineries, meet local winemakers, taste award-winning wines, and experience the romantic landscapes of the region.

The combination of exceptional wines, the sea, and a summer atmosphere will once again transform Savudrija into a meeting point for the Croatian and international wine scene — and, for the first time, for everyone eager to experience firsthand the wines currently making waves in the wine world.

This event is organized with the support of the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Istria County Tourist Board, the Umag Tourist Board, and Adriatic Istria Resort by Minor Hotels.
