Tomaz – frameless wines
Under the influence of the unique climate regulated by the Mirna river, on heavy loamy and marly soils,Tomaz family cultivates vines in complete harmony. On 24 hectares of vineyards, which are spread out on the slopes of Motovun, they nurture especially autochthonous varieties such as Istrian Malvazjia, Teran and White Muškat, while Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc stand out among the other varieties.
Although the Tomaz family has nurtured the tradition of winemaking and viticulture for generations, it started working professionally in 2009 when the founder of the winery, Klaudio Tomaz, produced one of his first labels, while today the Tomaz winery has 13 wine labels in its portfolio. The emphasis is on teran, from which 4 different wine labels are produced and Istrian Malvazija. The foucs of the wine story of this family is the production of exclusively top quality wines, which is confirmed by numerous awards for this Motovun winery. In addition to gold medals at domestic competitions, the most famous of which is ""Vinistra"", Tomaz wines have been awarded gold multiple times for the autochthonous varieties Teran Barbarossa and the Istrian Malvazija Sesto Senso at one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world, namely ""Decanter"" in London.
Klaudio Tomaz, today transfers his knowledge to his son Antonio Tomaz, who himself joined the family wine production a few years ago.
With the help of modern technology and a touch of tradition, Tomaz wines are created as a result of the interweaving of family work and terroir, therefore they carry a signature of these two elements as unique work of arts, and due to their uniqueness that is felt in every sip, they do not fit in the given frameworks so they become well knows as – framless wines.
