Great Franco
The Cattunar Winery in Nova Vas near Brtonigla has been engaged in winemaking and viticulture for generations, and today, with 50 hectares of vineyards, it represents the largest family winery in the Croatian part of Istria. The modern history began in the mid-1980s when, with the fall of socialism, Franco Cattunar opened one of the first private wineries in this area.
In the vineyards, they cultivate indigenous Istrian grape varieties: Istrian Malvasia, Teran, Muscat Momjanski, Muscat Rose, and international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Cattunar Winery is unique in that it has vineyards planted on all four types of soil found in Istria: white, red, black, and gray. They are present in the market with over twenty wine labels divided into four lines. It is worth noting the aged wines from the Limited Edition series based on Istrian Malvasia and Teran, which have won numerous international awards.
As an addition to the winery, they offer their guests one of the most beautiful Croatian Wine Hotels, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, representing a unique product reminiscent of the best Tuscan estates.
