Mario Banko Wines
The family winery Mario Banko is located in the village of Bašići, halfway between Poreč and Pazin, near Tinjan. Although this beautiful area is known for Istrian prosciutto, viticulture is also a traditional activity in the Tinjan area. Mario Banko spent most of his career in hospitality and tourism, but he did not neglect farming, which has been a tradition in his family for generations.
In 1995, he planted new vineyards on red soil in the surroundings of the village of Bašići, and since 2007, he has been more seriously dedicated to winemaking. He is assisted in the business by his wife and son, Toni, who has taken over the management of the family restaurant in Zelena Laguna near Poreč. Banko Winery currently cultivates three hectares of vineyards, with indigenous grape varieties such as Istrian Malvasia, Teran, and Hrvatica dominating, alongside proven international varieties such as White Muscat, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
They offer seven wine labels on the market, among which the fresh Istrian Malvasia and the cuvée "Sveti Šimun," dedicated to the patron saint of Tinjan, stand out. In addition to wines, they also offer six labels of spirits and one label of extra virgin olive oil on the market.
