At the 31st edition of Vinistra, Croatia’s most prominent wine exhibition, a significant advancement was made in the wine competition process – for the first time, the globally recognized Decanter judging system was introduced. This standard, also used by the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards in London, further affirms Vinistra’s credibility and relevance on the international wine scene.
The evaluation took place in three stages: initial tasting, selection of high-scoring wines, and a final discussion to determine the champions. A panel of 30 international judges assessed an impressive 750 wine samples, including 350 Malvasias. The system was introduced by Master of Wine Caroline Gilby, who emphasized that this more rigorous yet fairer scoring approach adds even greater value to the awards.
For the first time this year, in addition to the traditional champions in the Malvasia, Teran, and Refošk categories, new champions were also named for Muscat Momjanski and Žlahtina. Read more in the full article.
