Bastian

Winery Bastian is one of the youngest Istrian wineries that emerged on the Croatian wine scene in 2021, founded by Petra and Ivan Leko, who are originally from Zagreb. Their desire was to establish a vineyard and olive grove somewhere in Istria, and they chose Buje due to the beautiful landscape of the Buje hills.

The winery was named after Saint Sebastian, one of the patrons of Buje. They acquired the vineyards from the winemaker Ireneo Celega, who also works in the winery as the head viticulturist. Milan Budinski serves as a consultant for wine production. Currently, they cultivate 30 hectares of vineyards in the vicinity of Buje on white soil, with the best plots located in the micro-locations of Kaštanjari and Cupiga, at elevations ranging from 95 to 170 meters. The vineyards are organically grown, with Malvasia Istriana being the dominant grape variety.

They offer around ten labels of wine on the market, with the most sought-after being the fresh Malvasia Istriana and the elegant, lively rosé made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The cellar and elegant tasting room are located in Buje, where visitors can also taste extra virgin olive oil and brandies from their own production alongside the wines.
