Robi Damijanić - a young oenologist from Žminj!
The Žminj area is part of central Istria, where families have traditionally been engaged in various forms of agriculture and livestock farming, including cultivating vineyards primarily for their own needs. Few have ventured into more serious wine production, and one of them is trained enologist Robi Damijanić from the village of Domijanići, located on the eastern side of the town of Žminj.
Robi has previously worked for several prominent Istrian wineries and at the Poreč Institute of Viticulture and Enology. He is the third generation in his family to seriously produce wine continuously; it all began with his grandfather Zvane, was continued by his father Slavko, and today Robi is elevating the family tradition to a new level. He manages two hectares of vineyards, located next to the family home on rich red soil, where he currently grows Istrian Malvasia and Cabernet Sauvignon. Robi Damijanić has received numerous awards for his wines at regional wine events. Today, his annual wine production is around 7,000 bottles, and part of his wine is also sold as bulk wine.
In the near future, Robi plans to expand his vineyards to five hectares and intends to plant Sauvignon Blanc, Teran, and Merlot to diversify his offerings. Along with the planned vineyard expansion, upgrading the wine cellar is also a logical step. The cellar is currently located in the old family house, which Robi's great-grandfathers built two hundred years ago.
