Mario Peršurić
The Peršurić family winery has been located in the village of Ženodraga in the municipality of Višnjan for hundreds of years, where the population has always been engaged in various forms of agriculture such as farming, viticulture, and olive growing. The Peršurić family used to sow wheat and raise cows, but in the last thirty years, they have turned to viticulture and olive growing. After completing his studies, Mario Peršurić was employed at the Institute for Agriculture and Tourism in Poreč as a junior research associate, but he soon returned to his roots in the vineyards to continue the mission started by his grandfather.
The Peršurićs cultivate about fifteen hectares of vineyards, which are planted in deep red soil at an altitude of 120 meters in an east-west position that optimally utilizes solar insolation. The vineyards are located in micro-locations Lokvina, Prcanka, and Kanal. Their grape varieties include white varieties such as Istrian Malvasia, Chardonnay, Muscat, and black varieties such as Borgonja, Teran, Cabernet Sauvignon, and they are present on the market with about ten wine labels. Half of the production is sold in bottles and half as bulk wine.
Their most sought-after wine is the fresh Istrian Malvasia, for which they have already received numerous domestic and international awards, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which generally achieves excellent results in the Višnjan area. An interesting detail adorns their labels, which is "Sveta Nedjelja" (Holy Sunday), a fresco from the Church of St. James in Bačva, depicting a female figure with two crowns and all tools removed behind her, with the message "On Sundays, pray, do not work!"
