The Rooster from Ohnići

The family winery Geržinić is located in the small village of Ohnići, approximately halfway between Kaštelir and Vižinada. In Ohnići, viticulture and winemaking have been essential activities in all families for centuries, including the Geržinić family. Back in 2005, a young Marko Geržinić decided to dedicate himself more seriously to viticulture. After completing his education in Poreč, with the support of his family, he launched his own winery. Marko was part of a group of seven winemakers who brought some new ideas and winds to the wine scene at that time.

Today, the Geržinić winery cultivates 10 hectares of vineyards and is present in the market with around ten wine labels, with the rooster as its trademark on the label. Their assortment consists of indigenous grape varieties such as Istrian Malvasia and Teran, but they also achieve excellent results with international grape varieties such as Chardonnay, White Sauvignon, and Muscat Blanc, as well as red varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.

Geržinić has received numerous domestic and international awards for its wines, including fresh Istrian Malvasia and aged Teran, as well as for its Teran rosé, which has been one of the best rosés in Istria for many years, excellent for warm summer days.
