In anticipation of Vinistra, everything is ready for the largest regional wine event

Promotional film and presentation of the new, modern visual identity in Zagreb announced the jubilee 30th edition of Vinistra

Everything is set for the 30th Vinistra, the wine and wine equipment exhibition that has long become a favorite meeting place for wine professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. This year, from May 10th to 12th, during this prestigious wine event in Poreč and its surroundings, there will be a demand for an extra room, it was said at the Business Club 5 in Zagreb during the presentation of its jubilee edition.

As Vinistra grew, both as an association and as an event, its three former presidents - Ivica Matošević, Nikola Benvenuti, and Luka Rossi, were presented in a three-minute promotional film "Ahead of Vinistra", which was premiered in Zagreb along with the new visual identity.

The modern visual identity, in the shape of the Istrian peninsula and grapes of different colors and sizes symbolizing both large and small wineries, reflects the essence of the Istrian wine brand, on which Istrian winemakers have been working together for the past thirty years. Unlike the manifestation, which has a stem at the top of this harmonious Istrian cluster, the Vinistra association has a geometric shape reminiscent of a roof, resulting in two almost identical unique colorful logos, with the slogan "Where wine stories begin", perfectly describing the wine exhibition, which this year also expects more than a hundred exhibitors, including eighty winemakers.

“Istra vinistra” has been promoting our indigenous varieties malvasia and teran from the very beginning, focusing on top quality and making them recognizable brands. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members, as well as my predecessors Matošević and Benvenuti, for their dedicated work and effort. Today, Istria is a well-known wine destination, and our wines win numerous international awards, while young generations also decide to engage in this business, ”said Luka Rossi, president of the Vinistra association in Zagreb.

Significant Importance of Istria as a Wine Region

On the grand anniversary, Vinistra was congratulated by the Minister of Agriculture Marija Vučković, emphasizing that without people, unity, and the specific generational renewal in the sector, there will be no success in tourism in the next 15 years.

“For the past eight years, the Ministry of Agriculture has funded various projects, firstly those related to primary production, then those related to processing and the wine sector. Finally, we supported your efforts related to promotion, and during that time, we invested more than 80 million euros in this sector at the Croatian level. We used the Wine Envelope, raised its utilization rate from an average of 27 percent in the period from 2014 to 2019 to one hundred percent in the last three years. Almost all the beautiful wineries were built with the support of the Ministry, and we concluded that we need additional funds and new measures to tackle what is most difficult, and that is planting new vineyards and activating neglected plots, and that is certainly our biggest task in the period ahead, ”said the Minister of Agriculture.

Vice President of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce for Agriculture and Tourism Dragan Kovačević added that Istria has about 2,800 hectares of vineyards and produces about nine million liters of wine, or about 16 percent of the total grape and wine production, but the significance that Istria has as a wine region far exceeds these numbers.

Huge Leap of Vinistra

Support for the association in Zagreb was also given by the Head of the Administrative Department for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting, Fisheries, and Water Management Ezio Pinzan and the Mayor of Poreč Loris Peršurić. Both agreed that the 30th anniversary of Vinistra is a major event for Istria County and the city of Poreč. Vinistra has made a huge leap and has made teran and especially malvasia a brand that can be compared with the best wines in the world, and from the wine exhibition and vineyard equipment, a respectable and most famous regional wine event.

“Our wine story has been built for thirty long years, and today it has come to a very enviable position and can be compared with many significant wine destinations on the Old Continent. Plava Laguna has been a gold sponsor for many years, and it is a great honor and pleasure for us, we provide full support in logistics, and through our facilities and extremely high-quality offer, we promote top Istrian wines, ”said Emil Perdec, food & beverage manager of Plava Laguna, a gold sponsor of Vinistra, where this year top wines will be tasted from Riedel Malvasia Istrian glasses in cooperation with the Miva wine gallery. This glass emphasizes the characteristics of Malvasia, its scent, fruitiness, aroma, and everything that makes Malvasia a unique and globally singular variety," stated Gordan Mohor, owner of Miva distribution.

The Croatian Tourist Board has shown its support for the 30th edition of Vinistra, with its director, Kristjan Staničić, stating that this anniversary can be seen as a confirmation of how Istria, and Croatia as a whole, continuously work on the high-quality development of wine production, thus contributing to the elevation of gastronomy as one of the most sought-after tourist products, often serving as a significant motivator for guests to visit the destination.

"Vinistra positively influences the positioning of Istria and Croatia as attractive, interesting, and sustainable tourist destinations, as well as further promoting the overall domestic tourism offer," said Kristjan Staničić.
